Picture Book and Board Book authors

We’re looking for:

  1. Your completed picture book or board book manuscript. We publish bright, fun, quality books with humour and heart, so that’s what we’re looking for.
  2. We’re always on the lookout for original fiction and non-fiction stories with a running theme of big emotions, big ideas, and creative problem solving.
  3. A strong pitch would include a few sentences about your book, including the intended readership, the hook, which titles in the market your book is similar to, and what makes it different to others out there.
  4. We’d love for you to consider how your manuscript would flow across a 24-page or 32-page picture book, or a 10-spread or 12-spread board book. We accept submissions with and without illustration notes.
  5. Tell us about yourself! Please also consider including a short biography about your writing experience.

When you’re ready to submit, please email: publishing@fivemile.com.au

Junior Fiction, Middle Grade, Young Adult and Non-Fiction authors

We’re looking for:

  1. Your junior fiction, middle grade, YA and non-fiction manuscripts. These can be full manuscripts or the first chapters of unfinished manuscripts.
  2. We’re particularly interested in finding new junior fiction and genre YA.
  3. In your pitch, please include a succinct synopsis of your book, including the reading age group, the hook, which titles in the market your book is similar to, and what makes it different to others out there.
  4. Let us know if you imagine your book as the first in a series; any notes on your vision for the submission are also welcome.
  5. Tell us about yourself! Please also consider including a short biography about your writing experience.

When you’re ready to submit, please email: publishing@fivemile.com.au

Illustrators and Designers

We’re looking for:

  1. A PDF of your folio and/or a link to your website or Instagram. We’re looking for examples that show how you illustrate character, movement, emotion, world building and landscape, as well as examples of the mediums you work with.
  2. We’d also love to know what type of books you would like to work on with us.
  3. Tell us about yourself! Please also consider including a short biography about your illustrating experience.

When you’re ready to submit, please email: publishing@fivemile.com.au
